Everest Clean Up Programme (Spring 2011)
The first phase of the ‘Saving Mount Everest’ project involved a clean-up expedition on Mount Everest; this was conducted in the Spring of 2011, and removed some eight ton of refuse from the mountain and its trekking trails. It was jointly implemented by Eco Himal and the Everest Summiteers Association of Nepal (ESA), with partial support from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and the Civil aviation Authorities (MCTCA). The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) was responsible for part of the funding, while major financial support derived from the Swedish Postcode Lottery, and local support came from Hannes Snellman Attorneys Ltd and Gorkha Brewery Pvt. Ltd of Nepal.
