The first phase of ‘Saving Mount Everest’ project, the clean-up expedition on Mount Everest conducted in spring 2011 to remove some eight ton of refuse from the mountain and its trekking trails was jointly implemented by Eco Himal and Everest Summiteers Association of Nepal (ESA) with full support from the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation (MOTCA) of the Government of Nepal (GON). MOCTA of Government of Nepal as will Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) was responsible for part of the funding. Major financial support came from Swedish Postcode Lottery and from Hannes Snellman Attorneys Ltd. Similarly, Gorkha Brewery Pvt. Ltd of Nepal provided financial support for the project.
