Rural Health Development Programme – Phase II (Jan 2013- Dec 2015)

Phase II of this programme was implemented from 2013 to 2015 with continued financial support from Austrian Development Agency with funds of Austrian Development Cooperation (www.entwicklung.at).  It was framed with two interventions:

§  Participatory Rural Health Development Programme (programme intervention I) and

§  Community People Advocate for Health Rights (programme intervention II)

Intervention I was implemented in Deusa and Waku Village Development Committees (VDCs) of Solukhumbu District, and supported the development of an appropriate participatory model to improve the accessibility of basic health care services for the local population. The programme supported the increasing awareness and knowledge on health and hygiene, together with lobbying and advocacy on health rights and improving the capability of local health service providers. The programme developed an accessible infrastructure of basic health, water and sanitation systems at local level, contributed to empowerment of community based organizations, and helped in improving the economic base of the local population.

Intervention I directly contributed to guarantee the accessibility of basic health care services in these two VDCs of Solukhumbu. At the same time, the knowledge and experience generated from Intervention I served as evidence for Intervention II in regards to advocacy and policy dialogue on health rights.
